The Beginning

I. A Kingdom of Five Lifetimes

"Without knowing how something began, why would anyone care about how it ends?"

Our lives are defined by routine. We decide when to wake up, when to eat, when to do the things we need to do, and when to sleep. As humans, we try to codify all the process of our life into neat little boxes so we can feel organized. But as humans, we cannot codify everything especially with our emotions. We cannot codify others and certainly cannot make others like us or even fall in love.

For a king who ruled a kingdom, long established by his ancestors, the routine had been in use for almost 200 years. The people of the kingdom knew it well and it was like the background music to the story of the lives of all who lived therein. What this king never foresaw is how the outside world would change this routine and everything he understood.

II. Fifth King's Reverie

"The greatest joy is found in the simpliest of pleasures."

King ?? stared at the kingdom beneath his feet and felt an inner warmth - not because of the power he wielded, but because of the people who lived relatively happy lives. He always pondered ways to improve the lives of his people. He always wanted to know if everyone was "doing okay". If there was anything that could be done to make their lives better or cheer them up from the ails of the world and their lives, he was more than happy to find a way. This benevolent king was always thinking about what else he could do, never realizing that the people living their lives did not necessarily need anyone to do anything.

III. Song of Happiness

"Humans seek happiness in everything and everyone but themselves."

IV. New Pathways

"In a world of nearly infinite paths, there is always a new one that can be made."

V. Changing World

"Change is a constant inescapable truth of those that live in a world of others."

VI. Changed Ideals

"The greatest change is not what happens outside, but the change it fosters within."

VII. Exploration

"This world is vast, but there is no greater landscape to explore than the facets of the soul."

XVIII. Her Words of Hope

"A few words and a single promise of the heart can build a mountain where nothing else can."

As Idylline stared into his worn but radiant blue eyes, she gently cupped his cheek and stared deeply into his cracked heart. "Lets embrace the past fully and thank it so that it doesn't tinge every moment and so that it starts to evaporate except for its gifts. Let this moment and everything be as it was exactly as it was to get to here today where we can be deep into love's door. Let us know everything was to get grace and to find this single moment, one where the love we have is the kind of love we can make."

XXX. Final Boundaries

"The forbidden lines we cross can never be uncrossed."

As he knelt there, never a religious man, he prayed in that moment that anything, anyone could be a sign that he mattered in this life. The tear that ran down his face, he knew all he ever had and even more of what he never did. In his mind, he wished he never met Idylline so he could never have had the thoughts and hope for a future he would never had; but his heart can never forget the love she gave to him - albeit brief - that allowed him to see the colors of the world in a way he never thought he could. A gray sullen and lonely place of isolation, it was no longer a home - his heart too scarred to ever feel anything but pain - contemplating the forbidden, it was not the choice he wanted, but the choice he had.

Closing his eyes, the light wind rustled across the barren streets, now devoid of the people he knew growing up. The history of the people taken with them and no one to tell the stories of the past and bring promise for the future. Another tear began to form as the first tear left his eye and landed on his leg, as a small puddle of the last of his life. As the tear fell, he could feel his chest fall too. No longer a king, not even a worthy man, he embraced his end. Feeling one last time the wind on his face and hearing the voices of those he loved, the darkness began to cloud his memories.

XXXI. Surrender

"All living things strive to survive, but only humans can find a reason to desire death."

Still gripping his sword, he brought the tip to his heart and slowly pushed through, not allowing the pain to reach him. No movement, no sound, just a slight shudder as the blade broke the skin and the blood began to flow. The blade inching further until he could feel his own heart shred along the blade's edge. Mustering the last of his strength, fighting through his thoughts, his memories, himself - he pressed until the blade's tip once again saw the light and he could feel the remaining blood run down his back. There was no going back and whatever fate awaited him, he was ready - nothing left of his heart remained.    His breaths slowed and his body gently leaned against the bed. He slowly began to slide down to the cold stone ground. Everything was a dark, his memories blurred like a water color painting with no true form. The last moments, filled with all the colors the world ever offered to him and the vision of Idylline, barely able to be recognized as his consciousness is failing.  With the entire side of him now resting on the floor, his body nothing left to give - the colors began to fade to black. The last tear he would ever shed, left him. It sparkled like a newborn star as it ran down his cheek and landed on the stone, magnifying the detail of the lines. His story, now over, it was time for the world to take over. His time - a speck of dust in garbage bin of history, ready to be wiped clean from the minds and the heart of everyone he knew.

XXXII. Cleansing Winds

"Our ashes are swept by the wind, removing all trace of our existence."

As his body lay there, no one ever came. It does not mean that no one cared, they just had more important things to care about. Their children, families, legacies - the one thing all people want, but cannot have. Days passed, the wind that brushed his face and made him smile now erased each layer of his skin little by little. The world reclaiming the man it created. The tears now back in the clouds to become part of the rain that will bring new life.   Slowly, he and everything around him is devoured. No longer alive and no longer anything, even he was not him anymore. The world saw it as just another lost life in a world where death is the only guaranteed end. All that remains is those that remembered and even they too would succumb, never passing the story of their lives or the member of someone who loved them so much. All traces removed like it never was.

XXXIII. Forgotten Past

"What can be said about nothing that ever was."

The years and centuries passed as each day had before it. The kingdom, forgotten as a relic lost to time, never in the minds of anyone that ever existed. The world slowly erased everything about it, layers of dirt and grass blown across what once was, making its own grave. One day, the remnants of a forgotten kingdom become the new ground upon which someone will begin a new chapter of life and legacy, never knowing what came before. It is in the hope of that one person's heart that whatever they make will be a symbol of triumph and a legacy that is remembered for so long as the sparks continue in our minds and the blood flows in our hearts.
